With the help of a set of blowers, we teach clients basic oral-motor skills in oral placement therapy. With the help of the blower hierarchy, we encourage lip closure, abdominal grading, and airflow control, which are prerequisites for improving velopharyngeal function and better speech sound production. In combination with the straw hierarchy, this technique is invaluable for encouraging tongue retraction. It is also useful for reducing or stopping drooling. - The blower hierarchy is at the heart of OPT (Oral Placement Therapy). The set includes one of each blower from TalkTools' hierarchy (colors vary), one replacement #12 blower, and the TalkTools instruction booklet.
